Blog Completion

Hi Everyone! This week we were asked to reflect on our experience creating our Genius Hour project website and blog. This was my first experience creating a project that was completely open-ended which definitely means starting with a level of comfortability. I think one important take-away from setting up this project is the need to still convey some expectations to students, because otherwise it can be a little anxiety inducing. In this course I think that would've meant emphasizing that the topic size should be manageable, but is completely open and that the key expectation is the incorporation of tech tools into the project to improve our comfortability in using them. The inquiry learning that I remember from high school usually involved some sort of project, but at the same time there were usually limits to the scope and topic of our project.  Two concerns for setting up an inquiry based project in your classroom are the need for providing early feedback and instructor expert...

Completed Project

Hi Everyone! Here's the link to my completed product ; this can also be found on my genius hour blog Final Product page. This product is complete as far as this course goes; I plan to continue building my website and hopefully continue to build my goalkeeper training resume. Over the course of this week I completed my home page, finished up the Distribution and Foot Skills section of skills, linked terms to the glossary, and built a contact page. Of the three distribution and foot skills sections,  hand distribution  was definitely the most time consuming. In addition to the rules and importance, this section has two different types of throws and volleys  (this term is linked to my glossary page) of which to cover technique. In creating the glossary each term is linked to that page. This works for now, but as I include more skills and add more terms to the glossary, I will be looking to find a way to link to a specific line on the glossary page. This is a project fo...

Finishing up my website

Hi Everyone! This week I finished up the Goal Kick skill explanation and completed the page on Pass Backs. I also started creating my glossary page, so if your uncertain what pass backs are you can find in the glossary . Just as I did for the goal kicks, I explained the rules involved in pass backs and why they are an important skill for goalkeepers, however I spent the majority of the time explaining strategy and ways that goalkeepers can improve this skill. I also included the following diagrams and explanations of a common pass back situation to better explain some of the strategy that goalkeepers must consider. I also included an explanation of what each colour of dot represents (ball = white, goalkeeper = yellow, teammates = orange, opposition = red). For completing my product, my plan is to complete the Hand Distribution skill explanation so that the full Distribution & Foot Skills section of my website is complete. I will also add to the glossary any additional terms I ...

Continuing my website and breaking down the skills

Hi Everyone! I hope you enjoyed visiting my site and having a look at the format. This week I focused on creating the pages for each skill section, linking the specific skills to these pages, and starting with breaking down one of the skills. Here's a look at the front page of the distribution and foot skills section. I created a page with a brief heading explaining the importance of this category of skills. The skill I decided to start a breakdown of was goal kicks. I chose to start with goal kicks because it's one of the more straight-forward skills. Check out the goal kicks page below: While breaking down Goal Kicks I included links to the rules  and especially focused on the new rule change that no longer requires a goal kick to leave the box to be in play. I also highlighted the importance of learning this skill for goalkeepers and shared some of my own experience improving this skill as I gained the size required to add power to my kick. One thing I recognized while d...
